RELI?gion

Okay, breaks to the floor, before I begin, don't worry, this isn't like my usual posts; to those of you who actually follow my posts. This is a bit more of a logic and reasoning kind of post (I mean, come on, can't be all passionate posts now can it?)

Now,

Quite recently I had a talk with one of my acquaintance regarding morality. Now, to the general public, morality is often entangled with religion; just like peanut butter, or bacon and my tummy. It's melded together. But we have a different opinion (not really our opinion, more like Richard Dawkin's).

So let's talk about morality, what constitutes morality? Love? Honor? Pride? Loyalty to our one true God? Well, the holy water sprinklers of the Christian faith believe that morality is derived heavily from religion. In their mind, without religion, we will be lawless animals and anarchy will loom over the face of the Earth. Well, who could possibly object that? I mean, if people started looting and raping and killing babies, it's pretty darn obvious the world will be quite literally fucked. Which religion would say anything against that? Nope, they won't.

But is that what will really happen if religion is thrown out of the window? The answer is, most probably not. Why you ask?
Well, first, to cynically assume that the entire human race will be plunged into immoral actions the minute the order of religion collapses just goes to show that religious leaders don't even have faith in their own species, so to begin with, we are already equally screwed if our leaders already dismiss us as fashionable baboons.

Second, as Richard Dawkins wrote in his book, The God Delusion (and I am vaguely para-phrasing here), morality is just a by product of human evolution. It helps us pro-create and also maintain our dominance. Feelings such as guilt and love for our fellow beings for example, enables us to learn from mistakes and feel empathy towards our own kind. Thus, it doesn't take religion to regulate morality. (on another note, religion is a by product of our evolutionary process, but let's leave that for next time).

Third, as I've mentioned, if an individual is so cheap as to go haywire the minute his belief system is thrown out the window, then to begin with he is just living a lie. True, some people are like that, but if that is the case, we are just acting good to please God. Now, if God really does exist, do you really think he/she/it is such a sucker to fall for that? So, the idea of religion and morality being melded together to create order out of chaos just collapses upon itself. If religious organizations requires the world to follow a religion in order to uphold moral values; since cynically, we are all just barbarians that love to sin, and if said moral values are being judged by an almighty god, the conclusion would be we are just living a big fat lie.

Now, I realised my logic may be flawed at some point, but the point I am trying to get across is that morality does not necessarily derives from religion. True, religion maybe an outlet to regulate our deep emotional turmoil, but that just means we are not strong enough to face our true self and that we are faking our lives. Besides, if we truly stick to the Holy Book, the book itself already collapses upon itself because of all the 18++ content in there namely *cough* rape, looting *cough* baby killing *cough*.

Definitely NSFW folks.

Deck the halls!

BOOM! I am back baby!

Ahhhh, been awhile since I blogged. Felt voided of every reason to blog due to my previous blog's poorly choosen design scheme. Oh welp, that is what happens when you become a lazy bum who is too lazy to even write a simple CSS and HTML script.

Now, moving along, it has been my third semester in university and I've pretty much adapted to the life; just another way to say I am practically used to the lifeless lifestyle of an IT student har har har. But I digress...

Moving on!

I have been exposed to sooooo much awesome stuff this year. Lets not mention CF cause I will just burst in my RAWR RAWR mode due to overjoy. Now, stuff like Star Trek: Voyager just makes me go all (≧∇≦)/. I SWEAR, 2012 IS A GOOD YEAR FOR SCIENCE.

I mean, the elusive Higgs Boson has been found (RAWRRRRRRR) and the Mars Rover made in to Mars (RAWRRRRRRRR). Oh science (T▽T).

Now, BOOKS I'VE READ (or reading):
Cosmos - Carl Sagan (RAWRRRRRR)
The God Delusion - Richard Dawkins
The Pale Blue Dot - Carl Sagan (RAWRRRRRR)
Physics Of The Future - Michio Kaku
Physics Of the Impossible - Michio Kaku
Billions and Billions - Carl Sagan (RAWRRRRR)

Oh lord, I love me some good book.

As for CF, just one thing need to be said; IMMA GONNA TRY TO COS AGAIN NEXT YEAR.
